Seniors, now is the time to begin your 2018 Miami Herald Silver Knight Awards applications. The Silver Knight Awards recognize outstanding seniors who have not only maintained good grades but have also unselfishly applied their special knowledge and talents to contribute significant service to their school and community (devoted hundreds of hours to a specific organization or cause). The essential qualification for this competition is service. The program is open to all seniors with a minimum of a 3.2 unweighted GPA. Seniors may be nominated in one of fifteen categories: Art, Athletics, Business, Digital & Interactive Media, English & Literature, General Scholarship (usually the senior with the highest GPA in the class), Journalism, Mathematics, Music & Dance, Science, Social Science, Speech, Vocational Technical and World Languages. The Posnack School nominating committee will select one student per category. Nominees must be available to attend the Silver Knight interview on March 14, 2018 or they will be disqualified. Students will apply online and can include up to 12 pages of support documents. All final applications must be locked, stamped, and submitted by Monday, January 29, 2018 at 5:00 pm. There will be internal deadlines to meet the final submission date.
The Silver Knight Awards ceremony will be held at the James L. Knight Center on May 17, 2018. The Silver Knight winners (one per category) will receive $2,000, a Silver Knight statute and a medallion presented by American Airlines. Honorable Mentions are presented $500 and an engraved plaque.
Tracy Stuller and I will meet with the senior class on October 18 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm to provide information about the Silver Knight application process.
