Cooper Invitational Championship Win for RAMS Varsity Boys Basketball
In their first appearance in the Cooper Invitational Basketball Tournament in Memphis. the Posnack School Rams boys varsity basketball team defeated the Copper Yeshiva Maccabees to claim the tournament’s Tier II championship. The Rams defeated the hometown 4th-seed 49 to 47 in regulation play. Our boys entered the Tier II bracket as the number 2 seed after being knocked out of Tier I by a heartbreaking, last-second loss to Great Neck, New York’s Northshore Hebrew Academy.
In Tier II play, the Rams blew past the JEC Thunder and crosstown rivals, the Sheck Hillel Lions, 64-43 and 69-32, respectively. The Rams faced off against Cooper after the Macs upset defeat of Tier II number-1 seed, Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School. The final match up was a low-scoring, close-fought affair with both schools playing strong defense. The teams entered the 4th quarter tied at 35, when the Rams took a quick lead only to see the Macs tie it up twice more. The teams were even at 47-all going into the last minute and thirty seconds of the game. Two separate free throw conversions pulled the Rams into a 2-point lead to win the game and the championship.
