NSU Shark Expert Lectures to Fischer Marine Biology Students
Dr. Derick Burkholder, a professor and shark research scientist at Nova Southeastern University, addressed Fischer High School Marine Biology students. Dr. Burkholder engaged students in a discussion concerning local shark species and the decline of world-wide shark populations. Students were able to observe a shark jaw and fins. Dr. Burkholder talked to students about his research and the ways that he tracks sharks in the ocean. Students were able to observe the gps monitoring and tracking equipment up close. Dr. Burkholder encouraged students to become active participants in saving sharks, especially the sharks on the endangered species list and those that are nearing extinction.
