Dear Posnack School Community:
What an amazing past two weeks at Posnack!
Our award winning Fischer High School Musical Theater Department, led by Lisa Zipken, performed four sold out shows of Mary Poppins this past week. The impressive sets and costumes along with incredible student talent amazed all in attendance. I am very proud of the dedication, work ethic, and special comradery that all our student actors displayed. The arts will always be an integral part of our school’s mission, and I look forward to continuing the tradition of outstanding drama productions next school year with the addition of our new state-of-the-art Rousso Theater.
Our middle school started its inaugural debate team with a friendly debate against Donna Klein Jewish Academy in Boca Raton last week. I was amazed watching our middle schoolers display tremendous confidence as they debated the pros and cons of current issues, including the amount of television one should watch. Our students were prepared with well researched arguments and thought out rebuttals. Kola HaKavod to our Middle School Debate Coach Jason Touvi and all our MS debaters.
The highlight of our students Lower School experience is our annual 5th grade trip to Marine Lab, which took place this week in the Keys. Nothing joins a class together more than jumping into the middle of the ocean and exploring the sea in full snorkeling gear. It’s a three day two night adventure that creates memories which will last a lifetime.
I also want to congratulate our Varsity boys basketball team on their tremendous achievement of finishing third at the Red Sarachek Basketball Tournament in New York City this past weekend. I am very proud of their basketball success and even more impressed with their menschlichkite.
A special good luck wish to our talented Thespian Troupe as they head to States in Tampa this week. I cannot wait to hear about all the recognition and awards you will win.
As you can see there are so many impressive happenings going on at our school. On top of all this excitement is the ongoing construction of our incredible new high school building complex and two story Ram Gymnasium. The project continues to make amazing progress. We invite all of our parents who have not yet seen the new buildings to call or email my office and schedule a private tour with my executive assistant Lynda Tohar. You will be amazed!
At Posnack, we have a clear vision for learning and instruction that puts our school at the forefront of education. Our total K-12 enrollment is fast approaching 600 students, which makes our school one of the fastest growing independent schools in the country. Add to this that our high school graduates continue to gain acceptances into the finest colleges in the country, including Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University, and Stanford University, and it becomes apparent that Posnack is truly a special place.
Even with all our recent growth and success, our school remains committed to ensuring our students are offered the finest college preparatory curriculum and programming all within a dynamic Jewish day school model. It is a model which emphasizes our unwavering support for the State of Israel and includes a rich background rooted in the study of Torah. All together, our school stands as an important testament to the very fabric and vitality of our greater Broward Jewish community.
I wish all of our Posnack School families a meaningful Passover holiday.
Shabbat Shalom and Chag Pesach Sameach,
Dr. Richard Cuenca
