5th Grade Students Enjoy Shabbat Together
Last Shabbat, parshat Lech Lecha, the 5th grade came together at the Posnack Lower School for its annual “Sleepover” Shabbaton. Beginning with the students setting up their rooms, by 6:30 everyone was ready to welcome in the Shabbat. The 5th Grade students experienced every aspect of Shabbat from candle lighting and Kabbalat Shabbat tefilah, complete morning and afternoon tefilah, 3 full festive Shabbat meals, concluding with an inspiring Havdalah ceremony Saturday night. There was also plenty of time for bonding, singing, learning, and fun activities throughout the 24 hours.
This year the 5th grade Shabbaton was enhanced by the presence of Zohar Vlosky, the JNF Israel education emissary for Florida, who provided educational activities designed to familiarize the students with the wide range of Israel’s geography and explore with the students all the various Jewish cultures and ethnicities that make up the modern Israeli society.
Special thanks to our dedicated Lower School Hebrew and Judaic staff led by our Lower School Director of Hebrew and Judaics, the Lower School Principal, the LS Jewish Life Director, one secular teacher, the JNF, high school student chaperones and our maintenance staff for making this a memorable Shabbaton for our 5th Grade students. Our high school graduates often mention their 5th Grade Shabbaton as a highlight of their years at Posnack School.
