East Campus Music Spotlight

Hochberg Lower School students have been hard at work in their music classes. Here’s what’s happening in music.

Kindergarten students are learning about Chanukah and singing Chanukah songs such as,  “Nobody should tell …”, “S’vivon”,  “I wonder where the oil is?”

In Musical Literature, they are learning about an Orchestra, who is the composer and who is the conductor. They are also exploring creative movements through “I believe I can fly.

1st Grade students are learning about Chanukah and singing Chanukah songs, such as “Chanukah Hag Yafe” and “Latkes.” In Musical Literature, they are studying the Ballet and the dance of the Sugarplum Fairy. Students are also learning musical notes through colors and sound and playing the bells.

2nd Grade students are learning about Chanukah and singing Chanukah song, such as, “Maoz tzur” and “Light the Menorah.” In Musical Literature, they are exploring “Swan Lake” by P. I. Tchaikovsky and the ballet of “The dance of the little swans.”

3rd Grade students are learning about Chanukah and singing Chanukah songs, such as  “Menorah” and “Light the Candle.” In Musical Literature, they are learning about Joseph Haydn and the Farewell Symphony.                        

In 4th grade, students are learning about Chanukah and singing Chanukah songs, such as “Gelt” and  “Not by Might, Not by Power. ” Students are learning to play Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” on the keyboards.

In 5th grade, students are learning about Chanukah and singing Chanukah songs. 5th Grade students created original lyrics to the song “Havana” for Chanukah! They also enjoyed “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin.
