Furry Visitors Bring Smiles to Upper School Students
Students in middle and high school had an opportunity to spend time with the Animal-Assisted Therapy Dogs during lunchtime. The Animal-Assisted Therapy Dogs have been trained by the Humane Society of Broward County and aim to embrace the animal-human bond, establish healing connections, and decrease stress. The presence of an animal also triggers the brain’s neurotransmitters to release our “happy hormones” (oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins) and reduce levels of our stress hormones (cortisol and adrenaline). This release of our happy hormones can positively affect our mood and social interactions.
