On Tuesday this week, our 8th grade Names Not Numbers class spoke with Aaron Cohen, a Mexican filmmaker, who created the documentary, Heaven In Auschwitz, on the story of children in Terezin and the Family Camp (B2B) at Auschwitz. In particular, the film focused on the young Maccabi Tzair leader, Freddy Hirsch. The film is available online here.
The students watched the film in class and composed questions for the filmmakers, which they could ask directly during the Zoom call. Both students and Mr. Cohen were excited to learn about each other’s films and processes. The students were a little surprised to hear that professional filmmakers faced some of the same challenges they did when creating their film.
