Our 8th grade students recently returned from an unforgettable four-day journey to Washington, D.C., a powerful culmination of their middle school experience filled with learning, reflection, and connection.
Throughout the trip, students explored some of our nation’s most significant landmarks and institutions, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the Holocaust Memorial Museum, the National Museum of American History, and the National Archives. At the Holocaust Memorial Museum, students engaged in particularly meaningful reflection and conversation with a survivor, honoring the importance of memory, resilience, and standing up against injustice, values that resonate deeply across generations.
They stood in awe at the Lincoln, Vietnam, and Korean War Memorials, and gained deeper insight into our country’s leadership during their White House and Capitol tours, even a guest appearance by Miss Philadelphia.
The group also visited Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, the U.S. Army Museum, the Air and Space Museum, the Natural History Museum, and Planet Word, each stop offering unique opportunities to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences and the enduring responsibility to learn from history.
Beyond the monuments and museums, some of the most cherished moments came from simply being together; karaoke on the bus, sharing laughs late into the evening, and enjoying plenty of snacks back at the hotel. These small but meaningful experiences helped strengthen friendships and created memories that will last a lifetime.
This trip was more than just sightseeing; it was a meaningful opportunity for our students to grow as learners and as a community, grounded in reflection, respect, and a shared commitment to building a better future. We are so proud of how they represented our school and know these experiences will stay with them for years to come.
